In Realisor rather than saying we are going to be doing a project for three quarters and this will give us a certain level of quality, we instead say we want that quality at a certain point in time, and Realisor works out the schedule required to deliver that quality at that time. This allows us to change the delivery time dynamically to get the best mix of cost and benefit without having to manually re-plan all of the activities.
To the left of the qualities we have capabilities, and these
capabilities each have a plan entering them for what needs to be done to create
the capability, sustain it and eventually dispose it if we choose to get rid of
it.
Resource scheduling on a plan is affected by when the
Quality that the resources are attached to is selected in the 'Option Summary'
grid.
In the image above, the three processes will be active
whenever Initiative I-1 is at Quality level Q-2. This chain is also
representative of time - the order of the processes going in to Capability
CAP-1 shows the order in which they must be started. So for Prc-1 to be
initiated, Prc-2 and Prc-3 must already exist.
Setting I-1 to Optimal (Q-2) for Phase 1 means that prior to
the start of Phase 2 the three processes must have finished being started.
The timing of Delivery resources is worked out backwards from the first phase the Quality is selected, e.g. immediately before phase 2. First 'Delivery process 2' is scheduled backwards from the start date of Phase 2 and 'Delivery Process 1' is then scheduled backwards from the start date of 'Delivery Process 2'.
Disposal Resources are always scheduled for use immediately
after the Phase selected in the 'Option Summary' grid ends, in this
instance after Phase 2.
For the timing of Sustain resources there are
three situations that affect their scheduling.- If between the Sustain
resources and the Capability there are no other resources, the Sustain
resources are used only in the Phase selected in the 'Option Schedule' grid.
If there are Delivery resources after the Sustain resources, Realisor
assumes you want to Sustain the resources at the same time the Delivery
resource starts. Sustainment ends as per the previous examples
If there are Delivery Resources BEFORE the Sustain resources then
this does not affect the Sustain Resources. If there are Disposal Resources
AFTER the Sustain resources then this does not affect the Sustain resources.
A Process
can be performed multiple times - here Process 9 is linked to two Capabilities
that are both attached to the same Quality - Q6.
If a
Process is linked to two Capabilities on the same Quality, it is assumed
it will be carried out twice, and therefore incur two lots of Resource and
cost.
When Processes are linked to multiple Capabilities on
different Qualities, shown here as Process 9:
These Qualities may be on different or the same Initiatives.
In this case the Process will only be performed twice if both Qualities are
selected on the ‘Option Summary’ grid.
Multiple links to the same chain and Capability:
If a Process is linked in multiple times to the same ‘chain’ i.e. Processes that all feed to the same Capability, then it is only counted once.
