Weights and Weighting

Weights appear in two places in Realisor - on the Qualities attached to Initiatives and on Performance links between Initiative/Outcome, Outcome/Outcome, Outcome/Objective. To see the weights on these, simply turn on the 'Show Weights' option in the menu. This will display a percentage value in the bottom right of the Qualities and over the Performance link.

Qualities show the levels of performance that can flow from an Initiative and the value expected at each level.  An initiative can be performed to different levels of quality and you are able to define these for each initiative. To edit the weight value of a quality, click on the percentage value and typing in a new percentage value. Note that 0% and 100% cannot be edited or removed.

Weights are important on Performance links, as these links contribute value. The weight on the line expresses the relative extent to which the performance coming from the lines source node affects the performance of the target node when compared to other performance lines with the same target. For example, an Outcome might have two other Outcomes feeding in to it. You can either say that both of them contribute equally to the achievement of the Outcome, or you can say that one has a higher contribution than another.

If there is only one Performance link into a source node then the weight on that link cannot be anything other than 100%. If there are multiple Performance links going to one target node, the total of these links must equal 100%. The value can be amended on the map through using the plus and minus buttons next to the value. This will increase or decrease the value by 5 each time. The value can also be amended by clicking on the numbers and simply typing in new values. Note that as you are doing this, the weights on the other performance links going into the node will be automatically adjusted. If you do not wish to have the value of a specific link adjusted, simply click the lock symbol next to the link. This will lock the weight value and it cannot be adjusted. To be able to adjust the value again, click the lock symbol again to turn lock off.
